GRAPH OF THE WEEK or DAY

Graph of the Week: The graph took us all week long to create. We read a book each day of the week that related to our graph's topic, and after the read aloud, a few students would respond to the graph's question. At the end of the week, we'd analyze the graph. This can be done in K, 1, 2, or even 3. To challenge the older students, when analyzing the graph, determine the MODE, MEDIAN, and RANGE. With all grade levels discuss MOST, LEAST, MORE THAN, LESS THAN, and EQUAL TO. The graphs were displayed on our classroom walls, and were created on large pieces of tag/poster board. At the end of the school year, the children each took home 2-3 graphs. You can see pictures of the graphs below (scroll down).
Graph of the Day: The graphs are posted on the sign in board and students graph their responses on the sheet. At the end of the day, we add the day's graph to our class book. We still create larger class graphs every once in awhile that are put on our classroom wall. At the end of the year, students took the graphs home (divided them up between students). The "daily" graph questions/topics are a result of collaboration between myself and several teachers from the "teachfirstgrade" Yahoo Group including Dana Kumerow, Laura Maxwell, Kimberlee Grant, Betty Connell, and Jennifer Peters. All printables were created by me, and may be downloaded and modified to meet your class' needs. If you should have any additional graph topics, or have created graphs that you'd like to be included on this page, please feel free to submit them! I didn't take pictures of last year's "Graph of the Day" - - but I will this year. I'll add them as time permits. Additional graphs can be found at http://www.kinderpond.com/graphingideas.html.
Graphing Topics: Not all of the graphs have a printable yet. Some of them are just wall-graphs (tag board), but I hope to create printables for those that are doing the Graph of the Day book of for your SmartBoard.
