BOOK BINS
At the start of 2005 - 2006 school year, my books were not sorted or organized in anyway. I wanted my class to help me, so I invited in any willing parent volunteers to help sort the books by type. We determined a few categories (based on children suggestions and my own ideas). It didn't take too long, and the parents really got into it! After sorting them, I had volunteers stamp my books with my name stamp, and add a label to the inside cover. The label matches a label on the book bin it belongs to. Below you will find several labels. I've since then trained my students in selecting books and putting them back in the correct book bin.
In the above pictures, you will see my book bins. They are on the top shelves of the white shelving units. Most of them are blue and blue/striped bins made of a soft material, with a window on one side of the bin. I bought them at Target, in the "Back to College" section in 2005. Needless to say Target doesn't have these anymore. But, I have seen similar ones there and at Wal-Mart (lime green "math" book bins you see above the math tub drawers), and other stores such as Big Lots (red metal "abc" book bins you see above the handwriting drawers). The white shelves are from Wal-Mart and Target and can be found in the Hardware section.
The labels below were created by me and several web site visitors who have generously shared their creations. The label contributors include Jeanna P., Debra M., Tessa S., Candace, Tara W., Susan E., Jennie S., Susan E., Michelle A., Melissa, and Jo C. If you have labels to share, please send me the image and title, and I'll create the labels document, or just send me your already-created label document.
